He was 55 years old.

Sarawak DAP vice chairman David Wong, when contacted near midnight, confirmed the news, saying DAP members across the country had plunged into sorrow with the passing of Ho Leng, who had served the people of Sarawak politically for nearly three decades.

“The family of Ho Leng, including his wife Irene Chang and their children, were at his bedside in the medical centre when he breathed his last. His passing is a great loss to the people of Sarawak. We hope the people will pool their strength together to give support to Ho Leng’s grieving family members.”

He said Ho Leng had passed away a day short of his last remaining two-year term in the State assembly; he believed a by-election would not be called.

It was two years to the end of the term of the current state assembly on June 20.

Within an hour after Ho Leng passed away, news spread fast, and numerous people had already sent in their condolences on Facebook.

DAP Malaysia made the official announcement of Ho Leng’s death near midnight.

Ho Leng was first diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was on holiday in Australia 2012. He returned to seek treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and was flown back recently for his medical maintenance in Rejang Medical Centre.

David said Ho Leng would be buried on Tuesday.
