MIRI: A magistrates’ court here yesterday placed a personal assistant of a member of parliament, who was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly molesting an 18-year-old girl, on a three-day remand to facilitate the police investigation.

The 59-year-old from Bekenu is being detained at the Miri Central police station under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

When applying for a four-day remand, investigating officer Inspector Noor Rahimah Hashim said the suspect was apprehended around 10.15am in front of his office in Bekenu by a team from the Bekenu police station led by Sergeant Mohd Yusri Abdullah.

The arrest was made following a police report lodged at the Bekenu station by the complainant on Monday (March 3).

In her report, the complainant claimed that around 2.10pm, the suspect brought her to the Bekenu office.

She claimed the suspect had molested her and offered to take her to Miri to look for a job.

Fearing for her safety, the complainant ran away and lodged the police report.
