KUCHING: Members of the public are invited to give their input for Budget 2014.

Deputy Minister of Finance Datuk Ahmad Maslan said 15 focus groups have been established to collect data for Budget 2014.

“We are inviting members of the public to provide us with feedback and suggestions. We want to hear from everyone.

“Those interested to contribute can forward their input to us before Aug 31, either via email or through our official website.

The prime minister will table the Budget on Oct 25.

“If the input comes in the form of a letter or memorandum, we will conduct studies on it. If need be, we will invite the person concerned for further dialogue.

“This move is to show the government is serious about doing things in a clear and transparent manner, especially when the matter concerns everyone,” he told reporters at the Ministry’s joint ‘berbuka puasa’ with its agencies at the LHDN Academy on Tuesday night.

He said 15 different focus groups have specific topics to work on, each with representation from various agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and state political representatives.

It was the first time the ministry held the berbuka puasa with all nine agencies under its wing including Inland Revenue, Central Bank and Bank Simpanan Nasional.

Earlier, federal financial officer Datu Jabidah Monseri presented duit raya to 20 children from two welfare homes: Rumah Amal Nur Murni and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kuching. –Source
